Consents

Before a project's first session, the client signs an informed consent with their details, a health questionnaire and their agreement. They sign it on their phone or on yours, and you get the PDF.

How it is sent and signed

  1. When a project's first booking becomes Confirmed (when you accept it or, if it asks for a deposit, when the client pays it), Drop sends them Sign the consent in the chat and by email.
  2. The client signs in with their email on the consent page, fills in their details (name, identity document, phone, email and date of birth), answers the health questionnaire, consents to that data, accepts the aftercare and signs with their finger or the mouse.
  3. Once it is complete, the signed PDF, with date and time, stays on the project: View PDF. The client can also download it from their page.

If they have not signed it yet, we remind them by email 48 and 24 hours before each session. On the project's Consent card you see how it is going (Sent on…, Signed on…) and you can Send again (at most once an hour) or, if it was not sent yet, Send to the client. A cancelled or archived project does not get one.

Sign here, at the studio

If the session arrives unsigned, the booking tells you. Tap Sign here on the booking or the project and hand the iPhone to the client: they fill in the same as on the web and sign with their finger (if they slip, Undo takes the last stroke back and Clear the whole signature). It also works for clients you added by hand who have no chat and so get no link.

The template and how to customise it

Every consent starts from Drop's template, in Spanish and English. It always carries the client's details, their date of birth with «I am 18 or over», the health questionnaire with its separate consent, the acceptance of the aftercare, the box for the use of photos of the tattoo (which the client ticks if they wish), the guardian's section for a minor and the signature. The template is a starting point, not legal advice: check that it fits your region's rules.

  • Zero: your clients sign Drop's template. You see it in Settings → Consent, without changing it.
  • Trace and Ink: in Settings → Consent you choose which health questions it asks, from a list (at least one), and add Your clauses (up to 10) and your Aftercare. If you leave the aftercare empty, the client reads Drop's. What is Always in the consent cannot be removed. Preview shows you the form as the client will see it, in both languages.

Each time you save, a new version is made. Consents already signed keep the version they were signed with. If you move to Zero, new requests use Drop's template; yours is kept and is used again when you move up a plan.

Review with AI

It comes with Ink; on Trace the app says Available on Ink.

In Settings → Consent, Review with AI compares your clauses and aftercare (what you have not saved yet too) with a list of what a tattoo consent usually covers and suggests one-off changes: Add what is missing and Review contradictions and typos, quoting the sentence of your text they refer to. Many come with the change itself (the missing clause, the corrected word or the health question to turn on): Apply puts it in the form, Undo takes it out, and nothing is saved until you tap Save. The rest you accept or discard and edit the text yourself. Your text only changes where you apply a suggestion. It is guidance, not legal advice, and it never marks the consent as validated. It uses credits, like a summary, and if you have none nothing is charged. It only reads your own text, never your clients' data.

Minors and guardians

The date of birth the client writes is saved on their record and adds or removes the Minor tag. Under 16 it cannot be signed.

If they are 16 or 17, the consent adds the guardian's section: their mother, father or legal guardian writes their name, document and relationship, authorises the tattoo and signs. They can do it at the same time or later, on the same link or with Sign here. While it is missing, the consent shows The guardian's signature is missing and you get the Guardian missing notification, which you can turn off in Settings → Notifications. If the guardian signs on the web, the card tells you: check their document in person. Checking the client's is up to you too.

Health data and retention

What the client writes, their health data and their guardian's details included, is stored encrypted. Only you and the client see it: neither Drop's team nor any AI agent reads it. The client gives explicit, separate consent for their health data.

  • Signed consents are kept while your account exists. We recommend keeping them for at least 5 years in case of claims.
  • If you delete a client, their signed consents are kept, because they are your proof of their consent. They stay in your account and in your data export, and they do not count towards your plan's storage.
  • If you delete your account, they are erased with everything else. Download them first with Export my data on the website: it is the only way to keep them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the on-screen signature legally valid?
It is a simple electronic signature with a record of date, time and signer. If your region or your insurer require another format, check with them.

Can I add my own health questions?
No: the health questions come from Drop's list. Anything else you need, write it in your clauses.
